LIONEL MESSI
Full name: Luis Lionel Andrés Messi
Birth day: June 24, 1987
Birthplace: Rosario, Argentina
Height: 169 cm
Professional soccer player. Born Luis Lionel Andres Messi on June 24, 1987, in Rosario, Argentina. Recognizably smaller than most of the boys he played with, from the age of 11, he suffered from a hormone deficiency that restricted his growth and as Lionel's parents were unable to pay for the treatment in Argentina, they decided to move to Barcelona, Spain.
Messi began playing football at a young age and his potential was quickly identified by Barcelona. He left Rosario-based Newell's Old Boys's youth team in 2000 and moved with his family to Europe, as Barcelona offered treatment for his growth hormone deficiency. Making his debut in the 2004–05 season, he broke his team record for the youngest footballer to score a league goal.
Short and fast with a fierce style of play, Messi soon drew comparisons to another famous Argentinean footballer: Diego Maradona. Messi moved quickly through the ranks of the team's junior system, and by the age of 16 Messi had made his first appearance for Barcelona.
He was offered the chance to play for the Spain national football team, but declined, preferring to wait for the opportunity to play for the country of his birth.
